House Bill 135 - Authorizes the expansion of charter schools through the creation of the Florida Schools of Excellence Commission. The Commission is also responsible for holding charter schools accountable and reviewing student needs.
House Bill 7087 - A++ Education Reform Policy Initiatives: Includes a provision to provide the highest performing 25% of instructional personnel in improved student achievement with a performance pay reward (STAR Plan). This bill also provides that school districts may not assign a higher percentage than the school district average of first-time teachers, temporarily certified teachers, teachers in need of improvement, or out-of-field teachers to schools with above the district average of minority and economically disadvantaged students, or schools that are graded D or F. Furthermore, students attending failing schools are eligible to receive vouchers that they may use at a school of their choosing. Accountability measures are also built-in to this bill by requiring the DOE to deliver school report cards directly to parents.
McKay Scholarship Program for Children with Disabilities provides disabled students with vouchers to attend the school of their choosing, whether public or private.
Corporate Scholarship Tax Credit provides corporations the opportunity to make a tax-deductible contribution for scholarships to low-income students.
