(2007) Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle claimed a victory over the status quo when the State Senate passed legislation that will allow school systems greater freedom in creating charter schools. Under the law, whole districts can become "charter districts" and can be awarded $125,000 in "implementation grants" by the state board to serve as start-up money. While the individual schools will not be charter schools, the schools will be given the autonomy and freedom to innovate that has made charter schools successful.
